CISEC Complete Course: All Four Modules Package

This online course will help you prepare for CISEC, Inc.’s 3½-hour nationwide Full certification or its In-Training” exam.  They are meant to be a training guide and CISEC, Inc. does not make any claim that it represents everything covered in the examinations since questions exist that may only be answered by gaining field experience. There are four modules to this course.

Module 1: EPA Rules and Regulations

The purpose of this module is to ensure inspectors understand EPA and the Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements and how they are applicable to inspections.  Participants will evaluate EPA’s 2017 Construction General Permit (CGP) as it applies to inspector duties and obligations.

An important topic covered with be an inspector’s assessment of a SWPPP.  In addition, participants will see how assessing past experiences will improve the inspection process.

Module 3: Inspecting BMPs

This module will provide the necessary tools for inspecting BMPs found on land development, vertical/big box construction, and linear projects. Participants will learn about inspecting installed sediment and erosion control measures, whether the BMPs are functioning in a correct manner, and assess BMP limitations. In addition, information will be provided on inspecting storage areas where potential pollution problems may occur and assessing whether new BMPs need to be added or whether existing structures can be removed.

Module 4: Conducting Construction Site Inspections

This module covers the basic duties of an inspector by conducting a “virtual” tour of a construction site. Participants will reinforce their role and responsibilities as inspectors to meet EPA Phase I and Phase II requirements. The module will include “hands-on” exercises on documenting, communicating, reading SWPPPs and S&EC plans, writing reports, interacting with fellow participants, and assessing what to look for on a construction site.

    Dr. Jerald S. Fifield, CISEC

    Since 1982 when Dr. Jerald Fifield started HydroDynamics Incorporated, he has been actively involved with drainage, sediment and erosion control, water rights and nonpoint pollution control. Through his company, he develops sediment and erosion control plans, completes drainage analyses, provides inspection services and provides training to designers, reviewers, inspector and contractors about sediment and erosion control on construction sites.

    In 2006, Dr. Fifield founded CISEC, Inc., which is a worldwide training and certification program for inspectors of sediment and erosion control. He has authored numerous professional papers for IECA, ASCE, StormCon and many other professional organizations. In addition, Jerry has researched sediment and erosion control products and written sediment and erosion control manuals for designers and reviewers and field manuals for inspectors and contractors.
