Water quality and detention are becoming increasingly necessary to ensure the health and safety of our communities. Texas has beautiful and unique natural environments which include endemic and endangered species, parks, lakes and spring fed rivers that are used for recreation. With Texas growing at a substantial rate, it is imperative that we prevent pollution for our community and environment. The City of San Marcos developed a routine inspection program for permanent stormwater detention and water quality controls. If these controls are operating as designed, they will improve water quality in our waterbodies and help decrease flash flooding.

Following participation in the webinar, attendees should have a better knowledge of the basic illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) components, the methods for assessing their IDDE program, and the various ways to use IDDE program data to enhance and drive other stormwater actions.

This presentation will be an overview of US EPA’s Trash Free Waters (TFW) program, including program goals, TFW’s role in helping implement provisions in the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act of 2020, and a description of recently completed or active program projects.

Short and long-term successes of stormwater programs are built on planning, design, engineering and stakeholder support among other critical elements.
